Rant 625 / Half The Rant 是中文!

All those complaints about how the YOG was screwed up in Singapore are nothing compared to what's happening in India over the Commonwealth Games. It's so bad, athletes are pulling out after hearing the reports. Such reports are usually phrased gently for diplomatic reasons, so when the residential towers are described as "filthy" and "uninhabitable" it has to be unbelievably bad.

Complaints about cleanliness, plumbing and electrics were also made by other countries that have sent advance parties to the Indian capital, including Scotland which described the village as "unsafe and unfit for human habitation".

Those are some pretty harsh words. I'm intrigued. Why and how did the Indian government fuck up so horribly?

I also find the line below ridiculous.
"Everyone has different standards about cleanliness. The westerners have different standards, we have different standards."
If you can't meet everyone's standards, maybe you shouldn't have bid for it in the first place. Or...

"They're filthy. You can't occupy them. They need a deep clean. There's builders' dust and rubble in doorways, shower doors the wrong way round, toilets that don't work," he said just two days before athletes begin arriving.

There was also "excrement in places it shouldn't be", he said -- referring to problems thought to be the result of thousands of labourers using the toilets in the "certainly uninhabitable" residential complex.

... maybe in Delhi, "excrement in places it shouldn't be" in the eyes of the "westerners" are actually the norm for the Indians. I'm not even trying to be sarcastic here.
