Rant 363 / Someone Is Actually Selling Pedobear Plush Toys!

Smoke Monster From 'Lost' Given Own Primetime Spin-Off Series

Epic...

General Motors really filed for bankruptcy! Yet another titan stumbles, falls and stays down. Twenty years ago, most people would laugh if someone said this would happen, Just like the case with AIG.

Maybe in another half a century even Macdonald's will end up the same way. Hard to imagine a city without Macdonald's though.

And a Chinese company is about to buy the Hummer brand from GM. I'm surprised they didn't already do to it what they did to Starbucks.

Bought a jar of chicken scallopini sauce. According to the cooking instructions it just needs to be simmered with cooked chicken breasts. Obviously this would turn out as well as my following the instructions on a jar of pasta sauce to the word. On a typical jar of Prego pasta sauce it never tells you to add tomatoes and meat, but they have to be added.

I'm going to test this sauce with chicken meat, not just breasts.

Also going to make butter rice. Found this simple recipe that should work.

SERVES 2 -4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Melt the butter or margarine in a 10" skillet over med-high heat.
  2. 2
    Add the rice and stir.
  3. 3
Add the bouillon cube(s) and stir until softened or dissolved.
  4. 4
I use a spoon and break the bouillon cube(s) apart while it is dissolving so that it dissolves faster.
  5. 5
Watch closely so that the rice does not start to brown.
  6. 6
You might need to lower the heat if the rice starts to brown or appears to be cooking too fast.

Then I'm changing the rest to: transfer to cooker, add water and cook.

And this potato salad recipe looks easy, so I'm going to use it.

3 red potatoes
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups creamy salad dressing
DIRECTIONS
Bring a small pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes; cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain and cool.
Place eggs in a saucepan, and cover completely with cold water. Bring water to a boil. Cover, remove from heat, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, and cool.
Peel the eggs and cut around the egg white; keep the yolk whole.
Dice the egg whites and potatoes. Combine in a mixing bowl and add the salad dressing.
Toss the potatoes and egg; crumble the egg yolk on top and serve chilled.

Maybe tomorrow.

An article in this month's issue of Nat Geo was about the problem with food prices. Crops like wheat have had their prices tripled within the last several years, even though food production rate has been rising consistently. In fact the rise of prices somewhat coincide with one of the largest harvests in recent years.

The problem is that we really don't have enough food, and this has been true for many years. What kept them cheap in the past was that we were actually eating up our stockpiles, and now it is running out.

One of the problems mentioned was biofuels. Much of our food is now going into this green technology. In the US, 35% of their corn goes to making fuel. 25 gallons of such fuel requires enough corn to feed one guy for a whole year. The price of being green.

Another problem is with the rising demand for meat. As common sense tells us, eating meat is less efficient than eating vegetables, because vegetables are used to feed the animals. Even though China is the world's largest producer of soy beans, it imports more because it doesn't have enough of it to feed its pigs. Another reason to be a vegetarian.

What we need now is another new discovery that will increase crop yield, just like what happened in the late 20th century, when scientists found certain strains of crops that grow very well and gave them to farmers everywhere. We need GM foods and get over the hesitations regarding genetic modifications.

Or we can promote use of contraceptives more aggressively in secondary schools, allow late term abortions and send condoms to the poor people instead of food aids. In the worst case scenario, they would only choke on the rubber...

Holocausts help too, but it's not like there's a Hitler born everyday. We'll just have to make do with what we have.
