The Rift is a pair of virtual reality goggles that gamers will be able to wear instead of looking at a monitor.
But that's not what I want to talk about here.
The Omni is what's exciting now.
It's a device in which gamers can move in to control movement in the game instead of using the keyboard and mouse. Together with the Kinect, it can detect walking, running, crouching, jumping and etc.
Without the Kinect, probably just walking and running.
That's the big issue I see despite the hype - it's very pointless without other devices like the Kinect and a virtual gun. Imagine just walking while trying to aim with a mouse! I'm not even going to talk about running!
And even with the Kinect, leaping is going to be dangerous. Since it can support up to 130kg with only a safety factor of 2, after a few years when it gets old, a heavy guy of perhaps 100kg leaping forward may just break the belt assembly. Just look at the legs - they don't look that sturdy.
Also, crouching here means simply bending forward.
As for the weapon, there is the Hydra but it looks very difficult to aim with atm.
But the most important point about this is that the Omni is just the latest step towards a new generation of gaming controllers. Using this together with the Oculus Rift, the Kinect and the Hydra, gaming is going to be changed forever.
I'm not excited about these machines per se; I'm excited about what they are pioneering because they all have huge flaws.
This run in Zafehouse: Diaries really taught me a valuable lesson: it's possible to clear less infested buildings with just one good person. In the following diary, I used the final survivor for a suicide run just because I didn't feel like quitting after the other four died. She ended up lasting far longer than I had anticipated.

We arrived with a few weapons, some tools, some food and a few medical supplies.
The five of us are wary of each other. Fernando isn't adjusting well to the group, but Erik might be able to hold everyone together.
We found a note saying that a rescue operation was underway and a chopper will arrive soon, but we don't know where or when. We should scour the town to discover as much information as possible.
An address was scrawled on the back of the note: 5 Villa Place. It might be worth investigating.

The factory at 4 Lenox Road is a large building with around 11 rooms. It has nine doors and 15 windows leading in from the outside. This place should contain a cache of medical supplies and tools.
Phillip says it might be a good place to modify equipment.
Phillip scouted around the perimeter of the factory. He counted zero zombies outside. Peering through windows, he saw one zombie inside.
The diner
The diner at 16 Candlewood Street is a tiny building with around five rooms. It has three doors and four windows leading in from the outside.
Holly is looking forward to preparing a hearty meal.
Holly assaulted the location. She didn't spot any zombies outside.

There are still zombies inside the diner so Holly retreated back to the house.
As Holly left, she noticed one zombie shamble out of the diner. It came out of the dining area.

They headed straight through the front door leading to the storeroom. Once they got closer it proved very easy to access.
We cleared the room, taking down three zombies.

We refused.
We concentrated our attack on a few of them, trying to thin them out as they entered the house.
Fernando was the hero of the moment, causing more damage to the mob than anyone else. He then led the charge, attacking the rest of them with his handgun. Erik distracted the mob, but it was Phillip who felt the brunt of the attack.
The mob soon had the upperhand and Erik and Bethany fled the house, leaving everything behind.
There might be something useful we can scavenge from the enemy corpses.

Now I know what to do: breach an easy building with one or two people better suited for it, then send in the rest to search each place while the attack party moves on to the next building.
Just remembered I also bought Organ Trail. Derp.

Organ Trail is an interesting game. It's mostly about surviving through your journey but has a lot of 2D shooting, mainly because scavenging for resources requires the player to enter zombie-infested areas. Fortunately, it's 2D so it's quite simple.
Also kinda humourous. Probably would have been funnier if I had actually played the Oregon Trail before.
