Rant 539 / How To Have Glossy Plastic-like Skin In Oblivion?

Scientists are suggesting that ancient humans may have mated with Neanderthals. Oh man. What the heck? That's... disgusting, to say the least. I mean, I thought fucking chimpanzees was bad, but this... this is... well, not that surprising anymore actually, now that I think about it.

TWENTY-FOUR-DENAR WINE IN SUNO!

Since Colgando En Tus Manos is in Spanish, it's pretty hard for me to learn. I have to admit I got hooked, so that explains my interest. Fortunately I found the video below. Still not easy because I'm too used to English pronunciations. Luckily I can pronounce all the Spanish syllables, unlike German and French, so this video really helped.

This song may not be as awesome right from the beginning as Faint by Linkin Park, but it seems to sound better each time I hit the replay button. I can kind of understand the 49 million views now.

Learnt a little more Spanish from this song. The first two verses are very hard because they're so fast and I keep getting confused over the different pronunciations of the same syllables. For example Carlos seemed to pronounce "z" as "z", which is the South American way, while Martha pronounces it as "th", the Spanish Spanish way.

Is it even correct to say "Venezuela" as "Benethuela"? I can't really tell from the song but some Google results imply that it is.

If you're male and actually want to try, it's easier to mimic the original version of the song sang by Carlos alone. Its lyrics are different at the end though.

Quiero amanecer besando toda...
I want to wake up kissing (your) whole
toda tu ternura mi niña, mi vida te necesito
your whole tenderness, my girl, my life, I need you

Again, this is for the original song only. The duet version has a different final verse which you can read from the video above. Didn't include the footnotes for the lyrics from the website of origin.

The male-only version lacks the insanely high notes that only people without Adam's Apples can go unless you're 费玉清. If that's the case, I was not aware that you sing Spanish songs.

This song keeps playing in my mind like it's on Autoplay and Loop!!!

Finished Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. I didn't know I could turn into the Slayer or I wouldn't have purposely lost reputation just to keep my evil party members happy. Edwin was probably worth it though.

The game did get much better after leaving Amn but I didn't explore the game much after that. Just played it for the story because I was beginning to get bored of the combat. Fortunately I left Aerie behind or the game would have become much more annoying. Sure she's very useful but I think Black Isle made her a very irritating "weakling" sort of character just to make all the others look better.

Not very interested in the expansion Throne of Bhaal. The story seems to be about me hunting down the other children of Bhaal, unlike the main story which has such an interesting villain that kept the player wondering why he was doing what he did if he wasn't trying to destroy the world or something.

Settlers 7 is a nice game but Mount and Blade is much better. I felt the former game was too restricting in terms of gameplay. It's not only because M&B is a sandbox game but also due to the limited resources in S7.

Ouch! Knowing that the octopus is a highly intelligent creature, I kind of pity it as it was being eaten alive by those fish.

Holy shit!

Rant 538 / As Bass Volume Approaches Infinity, So Does The Quality Of The Song

I thought he was saying, "Hit it! Hit it! Sony yeah!"

The two "Will you marry me" scenes were very funny.

Okay so the two videos above weren't that good. Whatever. The best Indian music video on Youtube is still Benny Lava anyway.

I didn't know they still make these two handed great swords today!

Kind of useless but probably fun to chop chickens with. The swords aren't cheap though. Their Japanese swords (including katanas) are going for 375 to 800USD apiece, but come with their own sheaths.

The great swords, according to their catalog, are 3.1kg each, 1.4m long. Since you wield the sword at the handle, there should be quite a bit of downward momentum on the blade's end.

Interestingly, the "Chinese War Sword" is also available. Although it should be called a "knife" since that's what it's called in Chinese (刀), I can understand why they wouldn't call it that. The "Gim Sword" on the other hand is a real Chinese sword. FYI "gim" is Cantonese for "sword" (剑). This sword is not usually called that but I think it's obvious where they got their translator from.

When I saw the name "Shamshir" I knew I've heard it before but I just can't remember when and where. Anyway it's a Persian sword.

The following part of this rant is going to be repeatedly interrupted by unrelated screenshots and captions as part of an ongoing experiment on the psychology of blog-reading. Feedback is not welcomed.

Mount and Blade reminds me of the old drug-seller and pimping games I used to play on my TI-83 Graphical Calculator. Honestly, this game is just a humongous version of those games with some hack-and-slash combat thrown in. Okay, the combat is mostly optional and doesn't have to be hack-and-slash. You can choose to be a pro archer, crossbowman, javelin thrower or even a hardcore stone-flinger a la David-and-Goliath style, it doesn't matter how you enter the battles/fights. If you lose, you either get carried away by your companions or captured by enemy nobles who will eventually exchange you for money or prisoners. I haven't died once even after quite a few losses.

(Max zoom out)

Combat can be completely avoided if you want to but it takes a lot of precautions like only entering cities in the day (you can get robbed at night, in which case you have to fight alone against 3-4 bandits) and having an army to deter wandering raiders and bandits.

(Max zoom in)

But to go into politics, combat is a must. Honour and Renown points can only be won by fighting and with those, you can become recognized among higher social circles. Lords will eventually like you and then support you. I haven't gone far enough to become famous but there are already conversation options asking to speak with the lords privately. That most likely means you can create a conspiracy to overthrow the ruler of your chosen faction.

(I feel like I'm Hannibal. No, not the brain-eating one. I'm referring to the Carthaginian general. My army is like his, a mix of all sorts of troops from many places.)

Another interesting feature is that you can back the claims of pretenders of foreign factions (once you have chosen one to be a native of) to their thrones. I imagine you will have to fight in their battles if you do that.

(For new traders, Flax Bundle is one option that you can buy at below 90 denars each. 43 is a very low price only available in a few cities like Sargoth as shown.)

(127 denars mean a 84-denar profit on the first piece because the price rises and drops upon each item bought and sold. 84 denars would be 200% profit. Sell all now? No. I'm only here in Halmar to restock my food supplies.)

(Sell it in Ahmerrad. This is a good price, not 127, because it's almost 500% profit here. Muahahaha!)

(Once you're done selling them all in Ahmerrad, buy Iron. Anything below 150 is cheap. Less than 100 and it's very cheap. Some places buy them at over 300 denars apiece. Go find them yourself.)

For now, I'm still more interested in joining battles already close to ending in order to gain Renown and Honour and allies' favour for helping them despite the fact that I only enter the scene for some sight-seeing (I ordered my troops to follow me, then hid some distance away from the battle, finally ordering them to CHAAAAAAARGE!! only when the fight is halfway through). Surprisingly, the following set of screenshots are actually related to this paragraph. What a coincidence!

(You may see merely a list of soldiers but I see opportunities.)

(Charge them of course! I need to be there to tell them to stay behind my allies! Even if it's 163 versus 65! 163 is the combined forces between me and my ally.)

(My allies ahead, with white symbols above their head to symbolise their emir's banner. They will be taking the brunt of the enemies' charge and arrows.)

(My small army spread out behind me, a safe distance from the ensuing arrow barrage.)

(Taking potshots is becoming a hobby of mine. It does little damage but who cares? I've got 68 arrows to spend!)

(Victory! Only 4 killed and 6 disabled, and none of my companions died. Just as planned!)

(My AI ally lost 19. Aw... Whatever. The enemy lost his entire army, with 1 coward deserting. 19 + 4 = 23 = not a lot compared to the 64 we downed and one we scared off.)

(Nooooooo! He ran! A noble could have fetched a couple thousand denars in ransom money! The last one I caught was exchanged for 3300!)

Sure I gain less experience because I don't get many kills, but I don't need those battles to gain experience. These are trained soldiers I'm fighting against and I had placed most of my attribute points in Leadership, Persuasion and such!

(I'm a leader/trader, not a warrior!)

Keeping my money between 10-20k denars isn't that easy either now that I'm in the Sarranid Sultanate. War means I cannot enter the enemy cities and if I pass through their lands I may get chased down by huge armies of veteran soldiers. I got chased down twice, once in a foreign land and once in a village of my faction.

(My fief, a tiny frontier village. It's poor; I neglect it and my villagers neglect me. )

I was lucky in both because in the first, the Boyar's forces sucked even though he outnumbered me by around 10-20 soldiers. In the other I got help by 20 villagers who worked really well as shock troops as I sniped the enemies with my Nomad Bow behind the pitchfork-wielding meat shields.

(Once you have found some prisoners like I did as shown at the bottom of the list in the 3rd screenshot, find this guy. He appears at random taverns and buys prisoners who aren't of noble blood.)

This game isn't just all about trading and fighting. It is also important to court female nobles in order to gain status through marriage. I haven't reached that stage yet because I'm not famous enough. Everytime I introduce myself I get the reply, "Hybrido? I haven't heard of you. Now if you will excuse me..."

T.T

At least I finally got invited to the Sultan's feast.

(Too bad for the prisoners. No one forced them to pick the other side of the battle.)

This game, just like those calculator games, is great for multitasking. It takes some time to travel in the field and it automatically pauses when you're idling outside of combat. This makes it very convenient for players to do other things while playing, like browse Youtube, watch Bleach or take screenshots.

(Bad boys, bad boys! What you gonna do? What you gonna do when I come for you?)

One thing I find strange is how some food rot quickly while others never do. Food is necessary for maintaining your army because soldiers need to be well-fed. Buying different types of food also raises their morale. Apparently variety makes your men happy, which I understand because I wouldn't want to eat cheese and dried meat everyday.

(To capture prisoners, you need to disable them with a blunt weapon like this mace. The Swing damage is 37b, where "b" means "blunt". Blunt weapons generally do less damage than sharp weapons.)

Why do grapes and beef rot within a few days, but butter never goes rancid? Do the ancients have a way of preserving it that I'm not aware of? After scanning the Wiki article on butter, I see that they did!

(A city under siege could be entered by anyone. I don't see the sense in that. Doesn't this free access for everyone beat the point of having a siege? They could have just call it "loitering" instead of a "siege".)

It was made into ghee by partial dehydration, kind of like canned soup, and stored in air-tight jars. This form can be stored long enough to be widely traded in the medieval ages when the fastest form of transport was the horse.

If you don't know what ghee is, it's what you get when a person with a lisp says," Glee."

Haha..

Hehe..

Hm...

The other way was pretty strange but not exactly surprising. In northern Europe they would bury barrels of it in their swamps aka bogs.

Firkins of such buried butter are a common archaeological find in Ireland; the Irish National Museum has some containing "a grayish cheese-like substance, partially hardened, not much like butter, and quite free from putrefaction."

It's "grey" and "cheese-like" but not rotten. Don't know about you but I find that hard to imagine. Then again, I've never seen any food turn grey without decomposing. Guess that's what hundred-year-old butter is like. The Irish sure eat strange food.

But what about cabbage and bread? Both don't have long shelf lives inherently as far as I know. Those expensive loaves of bread I buy from neighbourhood confectioneries always go mouldy within 4 days. As for cabbage, it's called "cabbage" and not "sauerkraut".

Even after scanning Wikipedia I found no special way of preserving them. Well, cabbage can be preserved but sauerkraut is sauerkraut. As for bread, since it wasn't sold in slices back then, you could probably just remove the crust after buying mouldy bread. I don't know, this is just a guess.

How did this video get 49 million views, beating Rickroll by 15 million??

¡No sé!

Hablo un poco de español, but not enough to understand the song. Not even close.

It's a nice song, just not 49-million-views nice.

This is going to be soooooooo true. If it actually turns out to be this extreme of a sandbox game, I'll cry in joy and buy multiple legit copies. Probably never stop playing too. Serious.

Not my work but I thought this MSPaint comic was pretty original and humorous for something found in 4chan.

Rant 537 / Emir Hybrido

The ant infestation in my home has spread to my room. I've just noticed 2 trails of ants here, one in my bathroom and one next to my door. It's not so bad when I have my air conditioner turned on but when it's not, the lines get pretty visible.

I noticed ants in my bathroom long ago. I suspected diabetes in myself at first but the ants didn't seem to gather in any specific spots, not even on my toilet bowl. Usually they're at the sink, which doesn't make sense to me. There's nothing there, only a few bottles of medical stuff, mouthwash and the standard toothbrush and toothpaste and tumbler. The medical shampoo contains steroids (prescription only), but I don't think ants are attracted to anything like that.

It was only a few days ago that I saw a trail of ants on where the ceiling meets the wall, crawling from one hole to another. Apparently they dug through concrete and paint to expand their territories. I sprayed some insecticide and they're gone for now, but the holes are still there.

The one next to my door I found later. It came from the floor and ended in a wire trunking. I'm pretty sure they're using all the holes inside to travel around my home. Why are they interested in my room anyway? Sure I eat here but I don't leave food lying around unsealed. I have tried leaving dirty plates on my desk after breakfast until the evening but I never saw any signs of ants. Therefore they aren't here because of the food I bring into my room.

What are they attracted to??? Is it the wooden floor? Then why my bathroom too? What's there to draw them in? They need some of my moisturising Dove soap for a smooth and supple exoskeleton? Or do they want to use my mouthwash to prevent plaque and bad breath? What? I just don't get it.

I haven't seen anything in my room and bathroom that attracts ants. They're just entering my room without my permission for reasons I just can't figure out.

THIS IS A GROSS INVASION OF PRIVACY, OKAY??!!

Jokes aside, I know the best way to solve this is to actually keep my home clean regularly. We have this habit of leaving food and used food containers on the "dining table" (we don't actually dine there; its purpose is more similar to that of a granary's) that is cleared only every morning, so that's most likely why we have this many ants.

I'm just too lazy.

Mount and Blade: Warband is a very nice game for people who like games with no set objectives. This game puts the player in a fictional medieval land where there are a number of kingdoms that bear similarities with those in medieval Europe.

You are given no main plot and have no purpose. A short quest at the beginning tries to set you on a certain path but it is completely fine to ignore it. You can hire mercenaries, acquire companions, trade or even work your way up to become a king yourself. No restrictions is given.

Personally I've spent an entire day creating a solid financial foundation for myself. In other words, I traded and formed a 60-man personal army to guard my caravan. When bandits get see me, they run.

It didn't happen quickly. At first I had to spend some money to hire a few green recruits from villages. Then I did some errands for the nobility and fought off some looters and bandits, all the while keeping an eye on the prices in different areas.

I didn't record the prices down because it wasn't necessary. The player is allowed to spend a day in a city just to "assess the local prices", which automatically makes him spend some money on accommodation for the night and at the end, gives him three tips on which goods could be sold in which city profitably.

I followed these tips initially and learnt that they weren't always dependable. Apparently prices fluctuate in this game, so these tips may become obsolete by the time you reach your destination. However, after some time I got a feel of the general prices in the parts of the map I frequent and began to explore other regions.

That's when I found some insanely cheap goods that could be sold in cities I frequently visit for relatively large profits. For example, I was used to buying Salt from Shariz at around 150 denars each and selling them at around 300 denars at Yalen. Later I found Salt being sold at around 90 denars each in Tulga. At the same time, I found Wine priced at 60 denars being sold at Suno which was usually above 300 denars at Shariz.

Eventually I found that I could circle the map dealing in Iron, Salt, Dried Fish, Wine, Ale, Date Fruit and some other stuff. Now I have 16k denars and a caravan full of goods. I think I'll start working for some Lord and get involved in their wars. That will probably mean I will be making enemies and disrupt part of my trade route.

On the other hand, I can get land eventually if I do that, which probably means I get earn taxes.

I wonder if I'll grow old in this game. I've tried Googling but I couldn't find any definitive answer to this question. It's likely nobody has played this long enough to find out. It took me hours just to go through a few months of ingame time. It would be really interesting to become a 600-year-old medieval Khan.

Just when you thought a 3D realistic girlfriend simulator was the absolute worst that Japanese men can go, they give the world a wife simulator. In this game, the player can do most of what a man would fantasize about doing with his wife short of touching her and making babies.

That there are so many men in Japan who are making enough money to buy a PS3 and its expensive games, yet have to resort to playing these games, just makes me sad.

I'm actually very curious about why the Greeks don't accept the austerity bill. Oh btw,

aus·ter·i·ty Show Spelled[aw-ster-i-tee]

I thought it was pretty obvious why they absolutely need it. Like their PM said, it's either this or bankruptcy. To see what happens when a country goes bankrupt, see National Bankruptcy. Its logic is rather complicated for me but the effects are simple.

Their banks get screwed and investors stop investing in their economy. Their own citizens will also panic and withdraw all their savings and stop spending. Finally, their government won't be able to magically pull out some "stimulus packages" to save anyone.

The alternative, which is the new austerity measures, are:

  • Hiking the VAT from 19 percent to 21 percent (worth 1.3 billion euros)
  • One-off corporate tax (1 billion)
  • Cutting "holiday bonuses" by 30 percent (740 million)
  • 2 percent supplemental gas tax (450 million)
  • Freeze on state pensions (450 million)
  • Reducing bonuses and pay by 7 percent for public sector employees (360 million)
  • 2 percent supplemental cigarette tax (300 million)
  • Supplemental electricity tax (250 million)
  • One-off tax on vacation homes and oversized properties (200 million)
  • Cuts to pension subsidies (150 million)
  • Supplemental tax on luxury goods, e.g. yachts and cars worth more than 35,000 euros (100 million)
Other measures include: an additional 1 percent tax on income over 100,000 euros, reducing government overtime hours by 30 percent, cutting public-sector benefits 10 percent, and taxing the commercial activities of churches.

(source: http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2010/03/04/greek_austerity_measures)

(VAT = GST)

You can feel the desperation of the government just by reading the list. Personally I think it's a good time to invest to invest in cheap beer/alcohol in Greece. Lots of people will be drinking and most of them will be penny-pinching.

Changing the government isn't going to remove the debts but it may replace the people who have already been proven to be not capable enough. Yes shit happens, but you don't see many other countries this close bankruptcy everywhere.

Rant 536 / 夕陽醉了

Just watched True Legend. Not a good movie. Great packaging, inferior content. I blame the director and scriptwriters.

The film consists of two stories, which I consider as cheating. It should have been 2 separate short films with the same protagonist. Here, I suspect the second story about the arena was inserted because the first and original story was only 1 hour 15mins long. This second part was 30mins long, making the entire film 1 hour 45 mins in length.

The main story was full of inconsistencies. One major flaw was when he just digging up his wife, he didn't just smash the box open even though he had been crushing rocks and thick clay jars with his bare fists just for training. Plus he was panicking, so he wouldn't have considered why he shouldn't punch a hole into the box.

Another is how he seemed to recover so easily after going mad. People don't just dismiss their hallucinations just by telling them to go away. If curing madness was that simple his wife wouldn't have feared that he had gone crazy when she saw him training with the air.

All the special effects made the whole movie looked pretty nice except for the trailing effect when the protagonist was breakdancing in the restaurant. Oh right, they called it Drunken Fist. Nonsense! That was definitely breakdancing. Anyway the trailing effect that was supposed to make him look like he was spinning really fast looked really cheesy to me.

The worst performance among the actors was by David Carradine. I know he's dead but I'm still saying he sucked in this movie. He sounded far too calm when his fighters were getting trashed by a single man even though his words seemed to be otherwise. They probably highlighted his name in the ending credits with a box because his acting was so atrocious they wanted to separate his name from the rest.

The plot (I mean the first story because the second had no plot, kinda like a Chinese wushu version of Mortal Kombat) was shallow. The hate of the villain was underdeveloped. It's like one day he was merely some jealous lieutenant of the hero, the next day he was some insane guy hellbent on killing his adopted father.

He looked like he was in his mid-twenties when he had his revenge and he said he had waited for eighteen years. That means he was about seven years old when it happened. It didn't even make sense that he would love his biological father that much and hated his new father to that degree, especially since he was apparently treated very well by his adopted family since he was seven.

Finally I'd just like to mention that when Su Can he left his camp without a word, it was called "desertion". From what I know, desertion is a major crime in every single army in human history. It didn't make sense that he was not hunted down by anyone. Don't tell me it wasn't desertion. His prince was going to make him a governor and he did not reject the offer. Therefore he did not inform his superiors of his departure. That had to be desertion.

This movie was not very bad. All the fight scenes and special effects were very good . As I've said, it had excellent packaging.

Just a few songs I grew up on. Not that I listened to these in particular but my late father used to play these (some of them on vinyl records) on his hi-fi system that had 2 huge wooden speakers. We brought it from HK when we came to Singapore and my mum threw it away several years after he passed away. No one else was using it and the record player was broken anyway.

I remember I used to sing 太陽星辰 without knowing what the words meant. Just one of the many songs I sang as a child through pure mimicry. This is how I learnt to sing.

And finally, the song that sparked my sudden interest in Jacky Cheung's older songs. Part of the chorus tune appeared in my mind and made me want to listen to the rest of the song. I didn't even remember who sang this song and searched through all of Youtube's videos that had his name on a hunch.

When you hear the chorus you will know why I can remember it even 15 years after I last listened to this.

夕陽醉了

Ok here's one that isn't that old.

Once upon a time, Jack Cheung was your age.

I wanted to add an autoplay loop of The Song That Never Ends from Lamb Chop's Play-Along but didn't. Thought it would be funny for a while but when I finally found a way to make a Youtube video autoplay, it felt way too childish.

What have I become?!?

Anyway you can make it autoplay by adding "&autoplay=1" to its link. For example, a link would appear like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6MWbv5tctw&playnext_from=TL&videos=EBKeI8O6uTE&feature=grec

The actual video link is really just this part:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6MWbv5tctw

while the rest are the additional settings. So just add the lines I mentioned to either links, eg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6MWbv5tctw&playnext_from=TL&videos=EBKeI8O6uTE&feature=grec&autoplay=1

There, it now autoplays. This can be used for embedded videos in your blog too. The guide I found said that adding "loop=1" would make it loop but it doesn't work probably because Youtube added specific codes that tells the video player to stop and display related video links at the end.

Once upon a time when the forms of desktops were not set yet, people were still trying innovative shapes for the keyboard.
I think it's obvious why this didn't catch on. I certainly don't want to hit the keys with my fingernails, which may happen often when using the keys that were placed vertically.

Still, this shows us that the set up we have today didn't just appear overnight.

Ending this with a completely unrelated image for immatured giggles.

Rant 535 / Walk The Dinosaur

BAAAAD Company!

I'm confused by my sleep schedule now. I don't know when I'm supposed to sleep the main nap, the one which normal people have at night. So far I think I've managed to force it to somewhere around 10pm - 4am but I keep feeling really sleep at 8am and 7pm.

It's pretty screwed up to feel so wide awake at 4-5am, then at 8 in the morning I have difficulty keeping my eyes open. I tried to sleep at 8-8.30, but got up at around 9 feeling kind of sleepy.

It's about the same at 7pm except I don't allow myself to sleep that early. I keep myself awake till around 12am (10pm sometimes) before going to bed. No matter which time I pick, I wake up at 4am, or 5am today. I think I'm making progress here.

It's not even the sort of "tired" that makes you go to bed but you have to read or whatever before going to sleep. When I sleep between 7pm-12am, I get KO'ed almost immediately.

It all began when I had to drastically change my sleep schedule due to IPT. How the heck can anyone sleep after 1-2 hours of strenuous physical training? Here, "strenuous" refers to the degree at which I feel slightly dizzy and no matter how hard I breathe I don't seem to be getting enough air.

Since the training starts at 7pm and I get home at about 9.30pm, it kind of ruins the normal sort of sleeping schedule that starts at around 11pm. On the days when I don't have the training, that's when I feel sleepy at 7pm. Doesn't even make sense anymore.

And acne is the usual side-effect that comes when one screws up one's sleep schedule significantly. Doesn't matter how hard I wash my face because it has to do with my sleeping schedule screwing up my hormones.

This is one tough running game. Not new though.

So I tried to moonwalk...

Anyway I beat the game in less than 10 tries and about... 20mins. Crawled all the way with Q and W, using O to straighten the legs. P was useless for me.

Nothing happened.

Rant 534 / Cold Coffee Tastes Disgusting Unless Lots Of Sugar Is Added

BP is going to take full responsibility for everything caused by the oil spill.

Well, fuck you! How are you going to compensate for all the dead flora and fauna? Clone them all?

This is why we should stop using oil! This is why we need hamsters on steroids!

Go green! Go hamster power! And steroids!

Hamsters are cheap and easy to breed. They also produce additional energy when incinerated or can be ground into hamster feed, provided they died healthy. Another important feature of hamster energy is that hamsters are 100% biodegradable and emit minimal greenhouse gases until they're cremated in your biomass power plant( a necessary structure if you plan on letting them breed).

Ok so this is the first time I've ever made iced tea. Before this, I've always considered iced tea to be a waste of teabags but today it's so hot I'm making this in the morning to replace my normal hot morning tea.

One teabag, one cup of almost hot water, a little more than one cup of ice cubes and 2 packets of sugar.

This gave me an idea of how much sugar goes into those bottled iced tea they sell outside. Waaaaaaaaaaaaayyy more than 2 packets for half a bottle, that's for sure. More like 6-8, which makes each bottle contain about 12-16 packets of sugar according to my tongue's estimate.

Unless they use fructose, which is sweeter than normal sugar. According to Wikipedia, fructose is 1.73 times as sweet as our table sugar aka sucrose.

An eel was placed in a man's rectum after he passed out as a joke. He died. Ouch. I hope he died without regaining consciousness. I definitely wouldn't want to wake up feeling that in my anus.

An excellent video here on how to open your door with a card... unless you're on the wrong side of the door. If the curve of the bolt is facing the other way, you need another technique.

I was unable to find a good video on how to do that on Youtube, so I decided to spend a few minutes on MSPaint to record this bit of soon-to-be obsolete knowledge.

First, you need a very flexible card that you don't mind ruining, preferably one that can bend more than half pi aka 90 degrees without deforming.

Second, point the card diagonally downwards and slide it in above the lock as shown.

You're going to have to slide it into the S-bend by force if you have a door frame like mine shown below. Don't worry, if you have a flexible card it will bend correctly when you push it in really hard. Paint may get scraped off though. Personally I keep this expired SCV membership card from long ago made of clear plastic for this purpose.

Next, make sure the bottom tip (circled in pic below) is as far as you can make it go by turning the card as close to being horizontal as you can (maybe around a sixth of a pi, aka 30 degrees), but not completely horizontal. This is because you can't see the tip, which must go pass the curved part of the bolt. On the other hand, the closer to being horizontal the card gets, the harder you're going to have to push it downwards.

Finally push it down, with brute force if necessary. The lock and the door will not break and your card is expendable. Furthermore, it's not easy to break a card with a force applied in that plane, no matter its flexibility in the other plane.

It's may not be easy. Because of the distance between your fingers and the point of contact between your card and the bolt, you may find it hard to push downwards and maintain the angle simultaneously. At worst, you're just going to have find another card if it shatters.

The horizontal component of the resulting diagonal force from the side of the card lined in green will push the bolt back, thus opening the door. You will feel the resistance disappear when you succeed.

Disclaimer: This only works on doors with a gap between the door and the frame. If the door is held firmly against the frame, ie no room for the card to go through, this method may not work.

There is also the hard way.

For this you need a tension wrench and a feeler pick. The tension wrench can probably be found in DIY stores or hardware stores. It also looks like it can be replaced by a tiny allen wrench. The feeler pick can be made using the method below.

I haven't tried this yet though because I don't have any hair pins at home.

US police discovered a failed car bomb after street vendors saw smoke from the car, which I suspect was created by the bomb malfunctioning when it was supposed to blow up. I wonder what they're going to do now. How can they get more paranoid than they already are? This should be interesting.

Rant 533 / Ah We're All Heroes! You And Boo And I, Hamsters and Rangers Everywhere, Rejoice!

Not having decent coffee at home is a terrible thing. The coffee they sell in coffeeshops in my neighbourhood may be excellent stuff, but an obvious problem exists whenever you find yourself in need of a delicious stimulant at 2am in the morning.

Therefore a bag of Capparoma Low Fat 50% Less Sugar now exists to replace the bag of crap they call Super Regular 3-in-1 Coffeemix. All of Capparoma's coffee are Low Fat, but there are also Regular and 25% Less Sugar. The price also greatly differs from Super in that this Capparoma Bag of 25 sticks (packets) goes for S$6.90 compared to Super's 40 packets per bag priced at S$4.90.

After a few days of Super, this cup of Capparoma tasted fantastic even without adding any additional stuff.

This is it. The end of human celebrities is at hand. With Japan pioneering the virtual entertainers technologies, we no longer need to have homosapiens humiliate themselves for the sake of "the performing arts". No more shall people appear on ugly celebrity gossip news and drop from the apex of their careers to become known as sluts, playboys and scum of society.

And to think the Japanese government is still unable to solve the problem of their stagnant economy after more than a decade. This is sad. They need so much entertainment to keep the people from becoming one giant mass suicide cult that they're running out of real good-looking people to do it. Japan, as developed as it is, is one place I'll not consider living in permanently.

If things don't improve, eventually something big is going to happen there, and it won't be pleasant. Not for the entire Asia.

WHY CAN'T I PLAY MY PS2 ON MY LCD MONITOR?!?!?!?

Actually I can but I will need some special gadgets and cables. It's cheaper to just get the emulator.

It's spreading! It may be Greece at the moment, but far-seeing investors are now also looking at Portugal, whose credit rating was also reduced to A- at the same time as Greece's was slashed to BB+. Hopefully the Portuguese will look hard at the Greeks and do whatever it takes to save themselves before this plague of crises spreads further.

(explanations of acronyms in red)

This has to be one of the best 4chan threads I've seen in a very long while. What kind of suggestion is that?? Let an old, desperate and ugly gay man (if he was young and handsome he wouldn't be desperate; if he wasn't desperate he wouldn't need to check Craigslist for sex) suck on your penis just for free alcohol? What the heck?

And I love the reply at the bottom about free housing.

No woman, no cry = if you don't have a woman in you life you won't cry.

XD

That's one of the most ridiculous interpretation of song titles I've ever seen.
