I'm not trying to be sexist here, but have you noticed how most of the dominant cultures and societies in the world have always been patriarchal? I don't understand why, but the evidence is there in front of us. Nature is sexist, not me.
In case you're wondering if the world has been destroyed by the LHC, here's a website that shows the answer. I think it's constantly updated, so keep refreshing if you're scared (/sarcasm). At the moment they're about to smash the beams at 3.5TeV on each side (7TeV collision). If it succeeds, it will then continue to run at 3.5TeV for 2 years before stopping for upgrades and whatever.
Watch the progress at the LHC at this Twitter feed and this feed.

Also,
The LHC explained in rap.
I have to say they really spent a lot of money on publicity. The live video stream from CERN has been unbelievably smooth so far (watched for over 1 hour since first collision). This is coming from Europe, which usually gives me a worse ping than US servers. It's probably due to the fact that it's a satellite feed though.
If you didn't watch it you've just missed a major world event. Physics textbooks are about to be rewritten just because of today's breakthrough.
